Happy Honu Farms

Happy Honu Farms is a ¼ acre farm located in the backroads of Waimanalo. The farm is owned and operated by Raine Armstrong, a graduate from the GoFarm Hawaii program and UH Manoa. His mission is to increase local food production and be less reliant on importing food to the islands. After Raine graduated from UH Manoa he worked in the agriculture business in California. He was eventually drawn back to the islands after noticing that there was a significant need for more food production in Hawaii.

Happy Honu is more of a passion project for Raine who comes from a long line of farmers. His main job is being the director of operations at Farm Link where he further contributes to the goal of increasing local food production. Raine’s favorite part of being a farmer is feeding the community. He has donated food to Malama Honua Public Charter School in Waimanalo.

Happy Honu primarily grows leafy greens and legumes with an emphasis in incorporating cover crops to rebuild the soil fertility. Along with their main crops they also grow green beans and bananas. All of their produce is grown using organic practices and using compost tea (AACT) which contributes beneficial microorganisms to the soil and the plants.
