Hamakua Mushrooms

Hamakua Mushrooms are a specialty and exotic mushroom, grown on a corncob, wheat bran, and sawdust substrate. Their mushrooms are carefully cultivated to grow out of a bottle, a method originally developed in Japan. The bottle cultivation method is how Hamakua Mushrooms developed their signature “Ali’i” mushroom, a 3-½ inch mushroom that has a thick, meaty, one-inch-in-diameter stem. In keeping with sustainable farming methods, Hamakua Mushrooms recycles the substrate and sells it to farmers across the island, this rich mixture boosts their crop growth.
