At Farm Link, we believe that what you put into your body directly impacts how you feel, move, and recover. That’s why we love connecting with local experts who embody this philosophy in their daily lives. In this blog, we’re handing it over to the powerhouse duo at LKE Dojo (Luckiest Kids Ever), Coaches Aileen and Angela, who share how they fuel their training, recovery, and overall well-being with nutrient-dense, locally sourced foods. Whether you're gearing up for a workout or replenishing after one, their approach to Superfood Fuel will inspire you to nourish your body while supporting Hawai‘i’s farmers and producers.
Plus, don’t miss their go-to superfood recipe!
About LKE Dojo

Aileen Maquiraya (front) and Angela Moy (back) are the owners of LKE Dojo, where they use radically holistic Muay Thai to liberate Women+—all women, AFAB Queers, and Queer Femmes—from everything the patriarchy says they should be. Having experienced the transformative powers of Muay Thai in their own lives, Aileen and Angela are passionate about giving Women+ access to Muay Thai in a way that is healing, empowering, and freeing.
In addition to weekly Muay Thai classes and private training, LKE Dojo also offers self-defense and foundational movement (strength, balance, coordination, mobility, etc.) series, and non-movement (mind-body relationship, boundaries, magic of menstruation, etc.) small groups.

Superfood Fuel: LKE Dojo on Nutrition & Recovery
By Angela Moy (she/her) Co-Owner of LKE Dojo
What we put into our bodies is centered around one defining question: “How do we show up at our very best for the things we love?”
Muay Thai is known as one of the most brutal combat sports, and while at LKE Dojo we omit destructive practices like hard sparring, excessive training, and weight cuts, Muay Thai still requires a whole lot of energy and physicality. We have both sustained all sorts of injuries, the most detrimental being Aileen burning out her CNS system due to over training as a fighter while teaching up to 25 classes a week. The year after winning her championship belt, Aileen’s health tanked and she wound up spending an entire 18 months mostly in bed. That was the catalyst of our obsession with sustainable training, taking care of our bodies, and full recovery.
"Recovery is not a set-it-and-forget-it system, it is an organic creature that evolves and shifts just as we do as human beings."
As 39 and 43 year old business owners, mothers, athletes, and coaches, we need to show up strong and ready to go every single day. So recovery is not something that happens right after a class or workout, it is a way of life, a key element of which is how we eat. We didn't arrive at our current diet overnight, it was a long process of trial and error before we settled into how we currently eat and supplement.
We follow a predominantly whole-foods, plant-based diet (plus consciously sourced bee products), avoid gluten and cane sugar, use organic coconut oil sparingly, and cook 99.9% of our meals. This way of eating reduces inflammation, provides us with even energy throughout the day, helps our bodies heal quickly, reduces the likelihood of illness, and supports our load of physical activity.

We take different supplements—because we are different people— and we don’t take every supplement every day. Our bodies change depending on our level of activity, what day of our menstrual cycle we’re on, how busy we are with the kids and business, and so on.

Also, we love carbs. We eat tons of carbs. A post workout carb-y treat we relish are poi bowls, especially our super luxe poi bowl that includes He Mea ‘Ono poi, Aloha Sunrise Granola, Kula Country’s strawberries, local apple bananas, Mānoa Honey’s White Kiawe Creme, and Mānoa Honey Fresh Hawaiian bee pollen. All local, all fresh, SO delicious!

For many, especially if your career does not require a high level of physical ability, it may not be necessary to be quite as diligent. However, for those of you with serious movement passions you want to enjoy for decades to come, understand that recovery is a way of life and every single thing you put into your body is part of your recovery. Just ask yourself the question, “How do I show up at my very best for the things I love?” and let the answers take you toward long-lasting health, vitality, and joy.
