Hawaiʻi Tart Company started as an idea a decade ago when Matthew Zilch and his mothers saw many of Hawaiʻi Island's natural bounties going to waste due to spoilage and logistical/regulatory impediments. This inspired the trio to remedy that situation in their small way by combining Matthew's mothers' exceptional talents in culinary arts and agriculture with Matthew's love of sweets. With this, they set out to design a delicious product using as many Hawaiʻi Island products as possible, meeting the requirements to have a marketable shelf life, and minimizing waste to the highest degree they could manage. Out of that, the Honey Caramel Macadamia Nut Tart was born.
The company started small by selling at local farmers' markets. Over time, the staff has grown along with their product line, allowing Hawaiʻi Tart Co. to bring more of the agricultural products of our community to a wider audience.
Thanks to this success, Matthew's mothers were able to semi-retire from the business in July of 2021, while Matthew has taken the helm. Hawaiʻi Tart Co. looks forward to being able to share the creations of the Hawaiʻi Island with all of those who enjoy amazing food across the state and beyond!
