Meet the Fisherman: Matty Wong

Born and raised on Oʻahu, Matty Wong has spent nearly his entire life on the water. A lifelong fisherman, surfer, and waterman, his passion for fishing began as a young child fishing Hawaiʻi's local waters and eventually led him to become the first person from Hawaiʻi to qualify for the prestigious Bassmaster Elite Series, competing among the world's top professional anglers.

Despite his success on the professional bass fishing circuit, Hawaiʻi has always remained home. Today, Matty brings that same dedication, skill, and respect for the ocean to harvesting premium local seafood for our community.

Matty's fishing philosophy is rooted in sustainability and responsible stewardship of Hawaiʻi's marine resources. Rather than utilizing large-scale commercial methods such as longline fishing, he practices a more traditional, low-impact approach—heading out on the water and catching only what is naturally biting that day. This selective fishing method reduces bycatch, supports healthier fish populations, and ensures that each catch is thoughtfully harvested with care for the ecosystem.
