Founded by artist Palapala (Barbara) Chung, Palapala Designs is a small company based in Maui, Hawaiʻi. Barbara designs and carves original blockprints of Hawaiian motifs and subjects, combining them with contemporary form and function. The images depicted are flora and fauna found on the islands, or subjects related to important aspects of Hawaiian culture. The colors are taken from the natural palette of the islands – shades of green, blue, brown, tan, and orange – compliment almost any interior decorating scheme. Their products match well with fine hardwoods, especially Hawaiian Koa. We create a variety of products from pillow covers to purses. All items are carefully hand printed here on Maui, and most items are sewn here as well. They are focused on creating a high-quality and unique artisan product while redefining contemporary island style.
