Diamond Island Farm is an ecologically responsible, single man operation that has been feeding the community delicious organic produce since 2017. The farm produces a variety of leafy greens as well as other produce including tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, cabbage, broccoli and, more.
Carey Bonn, owner, and lead farmer studied at GoFarm's Ag School program, which emphasizes regenerative farming practices. With the use of cover cropping, mulching, compost, microbiology, and crop rotation, the farming process actually improves soil health, leaving areas of the land to regenerate and thrive. This is an added bonus when working in old sugar cane fields, where decades of monocropping have reduced soil vitality.
In his early days in O'ahu, as he drove from Townside to the North Shore regularly to surf, Carey was inspired by all the farmland that could be seen from Wahiawa to Mokuleia and over to Kahuku. Seeing that farmland reawakened an interest in agriculture that went mostly unrealized after graduating from the University of Oregon where he studied Environmental Studies and Sociology. He was accepted into the GoFarm training program on the North Shore in 2017 which gave him a jumpstart into farming full-time.
