A Local Superfood
Avocados are basically nature’s creamy superfood, packed with heart-healthy fats that keep you full and energized. They’re also loaded with vitamins like E and K, which give your skin that glow-up and help your body recover like a pro. All the nutritional benefits plus plant-based fiber makes your gut happy, so you can feel as good as you look!
The Dark Side of Avocado Farming
Avocados may be delicious, but their rise to global fame has a darker side. Originally grown in Central and South America, avocado farming has exploded worldwide, especially in places like Mexico and California. Unfortunately, this massive demand has led to deforestation, water overuse, and harmful farming practices, making a lot of avocado production pretty bad for the environment.

Ingredients (4 servings):
- Flesh of 2 ripe, local avocados
- 3 Tbsp cocoa/ cacao powder - try a scoop of Malama Mushrooms to supercharge your mousse!
- 1/4 cup melted chocolate - we love Waialua Estate Extra Dark Chocolate (70%) bulk
- 3-4 tbsp milk of choice - try Milk Market Almond or Macadamia Nut Milk
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract - try Laie Vanilla Company
- Sweetener of choice to taste - honey, maple syrup, and agave all work
- Pinch of Hawaiian Sea salt
Instructions:
- Blend avocado, milk, and sweetener in a food processor until it becomes a thick paste.
- Add in cocoa/cacao powder, vanilla extract, and salt, then blend until consistency becomes smooth.
- Melt dark chocolate in the microwave (use 30 sec intervals; give it a little mix then add back into the microwave for another 30 seconds). This is to ensure the chocolate doesn’t burn.
- Add melted dark chocolate in with the avocado and blend until smooth.
- Transfer into a container and chill for at least an hour until ready to serve.
Toppings:
- Try cacao nibs, local berries, bananas, and other seasonal fruit.
- Try it paired with Koko Kai Coconut Yogurt for a sweet/tart combo!
