Kuleana Rum Works was founded on Hawaiʻi Island in 2013 to make and share exquisite rum and celebrate the richness of Hawaii's culture. Their mission is to elevate rum as a world-class spirit by making rum from the best ingredients on Earth and without added sweeteners, flavors or coloring.
Steve and Jackie Jefferson fell in love with Rhum Agricole – rum made from fresh-pressed sugarcane juice instead of molasses -- on the French island of Martinique in the Carribean. Blown away by the quality of this style of rum, they made an ambitious plan to return home to Hawaiʻi and make their own rum Agricole with fresh sugarcane juice grown on the islands.
Today, they grow ~35 varieties of heirloom Hawaiian kō (rare, native sugarcane with roots back to the original varieties brought by the settling Wayfinders about 1,000 years ago) on their farm in Kohala and make world-class rum from the fresh juice. Each varietal of heirloom cane has a unique story and flavor profile that cannot be duplicated by molasses or processed sugar. Their super-premium rum pays homage to this piece of treasured Hawaiian history and ensures it lives on.
