Robert Dawson and Jason Brands both cherish Hawaii's culture and agriculture, which inspired the establishment of Kō Hana. Robert's fascination with Polynesian sugarcane varieties lead him to collaborating closely with researchers at the Hawaii Agricultural Research Center (HARC). He acquired a quarter-acre plot near Kunia Elementary School, where he grew Hawaiian Kō varieties for seed for new plants, laying the groundwork for their farm. Meanwhile, Jason focused on perfecting farming practices at Kunia Farms, situated adjacent to the distillery. From the outset, Robert envisioned crafting a rum agricole made with locally grown, freshly pressed sugarcane. Their shared dedication to upholding Hawaiian traditions and creating exceptional rum defines Kō Hana's journey, rooted in a deep love for the islands and their rich heritage.
