• ʻUlu and Kalo Bakery
  • Maile's interest in food started in college after she experienced a positive impact from eating nutrient-dense, whole foods. In her last semester, her advisor came around to ask what we were going to do after, and at that moment, she knew she had to pursue food & health because of the impact it had on her. Her interest in food turned into a passion and lifestyle.

She learned and understood the importance of bringing ʻulu and kalo back into people's diets. The first time she tried ʻulu, she couldn't believe how ʻono it was and wondered why it wasn't readily available. After her first experience with ʻulu, she knew she had to learn more. The moʻolelo surrounding ʻulu and kalo shared at community workshops left her feeling inspired and motivated to educate others and cook/bake with them for the community. Every time she harvests or prepares ʻulu and kalo, she feels happy, at peace, and so lucky.
