The one that started it all. The Gros Michel was once the banana of bananas. Pre-dating the now common grocery store Cavendish banana, the Gros Michel was what turned banana into the global food staple that it has become today. With its rich history and modern-day scarcity these bananas are truly a step back in time and are considered to be sweeter in flavor and firmer in texture than those common bananas found anywhere else.

Gros Michel, also known as Bluefields, was the main export banana of yesteryear, but was replaced by Cavendish when a diseased wiped them out for large scale production. Often cited as being extinct (not true) and delicious (very true), these are everything you always wanted out a classic banana: rich aroma with smooth and thick texture, excellent all around, and especially good for giving a bold banana flavor when incorporated into recipes. Certified organic.

Lovely, creamy banana with a firm texture and candy-like flavor, with lingering sweet, floral notes.  Great for snacking or baking into puddings or banana bread.

When green, takes between 3-7 days to ripen. The warmer it is, the quicker it will ripen.

Grown in Haleiwa, Oʻahu, Hawaii

Storage Tips

For optimal life: Store unripened bananas at room temperature. Refrigerate ripe bananas.
